How to play Betweenle
Two boundary words are shown. Your goal is to guess a word that would appear between them in a standard dictionary — alphabetically after the first word and before the second.
After each guess you get feedback: too early (your word comes before the range), too late (after the range), or between (you’re in the target zone).
Find the word between
Think of words that would appear between PAINT and QUART in a dictionary.
Strategy tips
Start at the alphabetical midpoint
If the boundaries are PAINT and QUART, think of words starting with P or Q. Guess a word whose first letter or two falls roughly halfway between the two boundaries to maximize information on your first guess.
Use 4–6 letter words
Shorter words appear more densely in the dictionary and give you tighter range feedback. A common 5-letter word is often a better probe than a rare 9-letter one.
Second letter matters more than you think
Once your first letter matches the boundary, the second letter controls most of your alphabetical position. Focus your mental dictionary search on the second letter after you've matched the first.

- Betweenle is a daily word game where you must find a word that falls alphabetically between two given boundary words. The challenge is narrowing down the dictionary to the exact right spot using as few guesses as possible.
- How does alphabetical order work in Betweenle?
- Words are ordered exactly as they would appear in a standard English dictionary — letter by letter from left to right. If two words share the same first letter, the second letter determines order, and so on. Shorter words that are prefixes of longer words come first (e.g. CAR before CARD).
- What feedback does Betweenle give after each guess?
- After each guess you see whether your word falls before the lower boundary (too early), after the upper boundary (too late), or within the valid range (between). If it's between, you learn whether you've found the answer or need to narrow further.
- Is Betweenle a daily puzzle?
- Yes. A new Betweenle puzzle is published each day with new boundary words and a new target answer. We publish the boundary words and progressive hints as soon as the puzzle is available.
